GM PACE Competition 1st Place
I was the leader of the International Pace Competition, which is a General Motors sponsored project. The team (images above) was comprised of 14 Engineers and Designers from 5 different schools and 4 different countries. Our design placed 1st in the competition held on December 3rd, 2012.
Our target market was the American market as we focused on designing a car for Buick. The theme that we set out to explore for our design was "Green Design." We researched many recyclable materials and explored numerous ways that we could make our car as power efficient as possible by generating electricity. Some ideas included, solar panels, wind turbines, piezoelectric and solar film.
We conducted a survey with over 100 participants from our targeted user group (age 20-35) to determine what style of design they would be interested in driving.
We wanted to get an idea of the dimensions of a current urban environment vehicle to base our design off of. We sat inside of the vehicles, took notes on comfort and special features and measured the car to begin to understand the scale at which we were working with.
